Automated cardiopulmonary resuscitation device

This technology is a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)-assistive device that performs automated chest compressions that is easily usable by untrained bystanders.

Unmet Need: Cost-effective and user-friendly CPR-assistive device

Acute cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States, for which cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is often performed as a first-aid measure. However, aside from healthcare professionals, many bystanders in an emergency lack training in performing CPR safely and effectively. Additionally, performing CPR is very labor-intensive, which may result in a fatigue-induced decrease in the force, consistency, and effectiveness of chest compressions. Although CPR-assistive devices have been designed to perform automated chest compressions, they can often be expensive and have variable efficacy and functionality.

The Technology: Simple, affordable automated CPR device

This technology is an affordable and portable CPR-assistive device that performs automated chest compressions. The device is designed to be simple to set up and use, enabling usage of the device by untrained bystanders. This technology can be used to treat out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and increase bystander engagement in emergency situations. This technology can also be used for CPR training, in-hospital cardiac arrests, and to reduce fatigue in emergency personnel performing labor-intensive manual CPR.

Applications:

  • Treatment for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
  • Treatment for in-hospital cardiac arrests
  • Tool for increasing bystander engagement in emergency situations
  • Tool for fatigue reduction for emergency personnel performing manual CPR
  • CPR training device

Advantages:

  • Reduces fatigue for emergency professionals performing CPR
  • Enables bystanders to assist in emergency settings without training
  • Boosts bystander engagement and confidence
  • Cost-effective
  • Portable
  • Compatible with usage in various settings and by individuals of varying expertise
