Antimicrobial products are widely used for medical supplies, household cleaning and personal care, but many of the ingredients in these products can cause adverse health effects such as skin, eye or lung irritation. As such, many older formulations are experiencing regulatory, environmental and health issues. This technology describes antimicrobial compositions that exhibit reduced irritant effects. The compositions contain natural ingredients such as benzyl alcohol and botanicals with or without natural glycerin. This technology can be applied in personal care products, topical creams, veterinary products or oral care and medical products.
This preservative formulation contains only botanical extracts and naturally occurring essential oils. This composition does not contain traditional preservatives like 1,3 propane diol, yet exhibits microbial growth inhibition against a broad range of microorganisms. Because it is derived from natural products and highly effective, the environmental, regulatory, and health issues commonly encountered with current preservative formulations are not a concern with this technology. Additionally, this composition can be added to currently existing personal care products without altering the function or color of the marketed product. This technology, therefore, is applicable to a wide range of cosmetics, toiletries, health, and personal care products.
The ability of this formulation to inhibit microorganism growth has been tested in vitro.
