This technology, a highly efficient and compact magnetic toroidal power inductor, provides a robust solution to the challenges of embedding compact DC power inductors onto integrated circuits while maintaining high in digital electronics applications. This low-loss inductor can be flexibly incorporated to meet required DC to DC power conversion needs on integrated circuits.
This toroidal inductor has been designed for high inductance. This high DC to DC conversion performance and compact design allows for the creation of highly-efficient integrated circuits that can accommodate needed supply voltages without compromising space. High inductance is achieved through oriented deposition of directionally magnetic layers that are separated by insulating layers to achieve an overall isotropic magnetic core. Carefully designed insulating layers minimize energy loss and maintain high efficiency. The increased efficiency of the technology has been demonstrated using simulations.
