Electronic Illustrated Operative Notes (EION)

This technology is a platform to consolidate all cardiac operative notes onto a single page through modular illustrations and standardized operation groupings to improve electronic medical record efficiency.

Unmet Need: Standardized patient records for cardiac operations

With the introduction of electronic health and medical records (EHR/EMR) the switch from paper records to electronic data storage introduced differences in operative notes tracking patient data. There now exists an overwhelming amount of patient data with incomplete patient records. This is particularly problematic in cardiac surgery as complex procedures require notes with details that are difficult to fully capitulate with customizable text inputs.

The Technology: Operative notes consolidation platform through modular illustrations and standardized operation groupings

This software serves as a platform to consolidate operative notes and brings prior techniques used to the adoption of EMRs into the electronic healthcare ecosystem. This allows for pre-op and intra-op notes of cardiovascular surgery. This additionally allows for easy patient information transfer across various physicians and surgeon, and can be applied to other respective surgical note systems for other specialties, to improve EMR efficiency.

Applications:

  • Standard electronic medical record platform for cardiac operative procedures
  • Documentation software for cardiac clinical trials
  • Tool for cardiac surgery education
  • Research database for experimental cardiac surgery documentation

Advantages:

  • Digitized format with standardized cardiac illustration
  • Applicable beyond cardiac surgical specialties for illustrative EMR systems
  • Usable for trial documentation across cardiac surgical centers
  • Merges existing techniques for cardiothoracic surgery with modern technology
  • Generates weekly, monthly, and annual reports from recorded surgical data
