Current light sources lack tunability, require bulky external equipment or components, or only span narrow spectral ranges, limiting chip-scale photonic applications.
\r\r
The Technology: Integrated chip-scale narrow-linewidth, broad-spectrum, highly tunable laser
\r\r
This technology is a chip-scale laser that combines high-confinement silicon nitride resonators with commercially available Fabry-Perot laser diodes to create a platform that is tunable with narrow linewidth and broad spectrum. The silicon nitride resonators support low-loss light propagation throughout the visible and near-IR spectrum; additionally, the Fabry-Perot laser diodes provide tunability and a narrow linewidth. In combination, the platform offers a highly precise, broad-spectrum chip-scale laser, advancing chip-scale photonics.
\r\r
Applications:
\r\r
\r
Ion trapping
\r
Quantum photonics
\r
Biosensors
\r
Augmented and virtual reality devices
\r
Neural probes
\r
Nonlinear photonics
\r
Spectroscopy
\r
\r\r
Advantages:
\r\r
\r
Tunable
\r
Narrow linewidth
\r
Broad visible and near-infrared spectral coverage
\r
Compact, chip-scale design
\r
Low-loss light propagation
\r
\r\r
Lead Inventor:
\r\r
Michal Lipson, Ph.D.
\r\r
Patent Information:
\r\r
Patent Pending(US20230288774)
\r\r
Related Publications:
\r\r
*Corato-Zanarella M, Gil-Molina A, Ji X, Shin MC, Mohanty A, Lipson M. “Widely tunable and narrow-linewidth chip-scale lasers from near-ultraviolet to near-infrared wavelengths” Nat.
