Streaming Video/Audio from Internet Overload Server:
Internet is an increasingly being used for delivering multimedia content, such as streaming and audio. Streaming can be done in a unicast fashion, where each client gets a copy of the stream. This has the problem unnecessary copies of the same stream are generated, thereby overloading the streaming server. In addition, it is necessary to provide uninterrupted streaming, as a host moves between subnets.
Multicast for Uninterrupted Streaming:
The technology describes an architecture that uses multicast to stream audio and video over the Internet. It also addresses the mobility issues. Prior to moving from one subnet to the other, a host generates requests to receive the broadcast in the second subnet. After moving to the second subnet, the streaming continues uninterrupted.
Applications:
• Streaming audio and video
• Augmenting SIP / VoIP services with additional value-added features
Advantages:
• Can function as Internet radio or television
• Addresses mobility issues
