Manganese oxide nanoparticles for cell-free nucleic acid scavenging
This technology is an anionic manganese oxide nanoparticle that scavenges cell-free nucleic acids (cf-NAs) to reduce inflammation.
Unmet Need: Safe and effective scavenger of cell-free nucleic acids
Chronic inflammation is linked to damage-associated molecular patterns, including cell-free nucleic acids (cf-NAs), which activate innate immune responses. Dysregulated cf-NA-mediated inflammation contributes to a wide range of diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. However, there are currently no therapies that selectively remove cf-NAs from circulation, and existing anti-inflammatory drugs do not directly target these inflammatory mediators.
The Technology: Low-toxicity, biodegradable anionic manganese oxide nanoparticles
This technology is an anionic manganese oxide nanoparticle that scavenges cell-free nucleic acids(cf-NAs). Its negatively charged surface promotes interactions with cf-NAs, particularly cell-free DNA (cfDNA), enabling the nanoparticles to act as scavengers, capturing cfDNA and inhibiting intracellular agonist-induced toll-like receptor (TLR) cell activation. The nanoparticles are biodegradable and exhibit lower toxicity than previously reported cf-NA scavengers, making them a promising therapeutic approach for inflammation-related diseases.
This technology has been validated using TLR cell lines.
