Alcohol-free botanical oral care products

This technology describes alcohol-free botanical formulations for a wide variety of oral care products.

Unmet Need: Effective oral care formulations without health and environmental side effects

Dental health is a major worldwide issue. Current antimicrobials and alcohol-based oral care products have undesirable side effects (e.g., pigmentation, dehydration, taste alteration) and can also be harmful to the environment. Herbal and naturally occurring active ingredients have been proposed as attractive alternatives due to their antimicrobial efficacy with limited health and environmental side effects.

The Technology: Alcohol-free botanical formulations for oral care products

This technology describes alcohol-free natural formulations which combine synergistically the antimicrobial effects of essential oils, plant fruit extracts, and anti-inflammatory botanicals. These formulations are capable of effectively inhibiting S. aureus and S. mutans within 20 seconds of contact. This technology can be incorporated in several currently existing oral care products: mouthwashes, toothpastes, mints, chewings gums, mouth fresheners, and dental floss.

Applications:

  • Oral rinse
  • Denture and retainer cleanser
  • Formulation for toothpastes, oral patches, oral spray, dental floss, or lozenge
  • Wound care
  • Medical device coating method

Advantages:
