Augmented ultrasonography with implanted CMOS electronic motes

This technology is an advanced medical imaging system that uses implanted, battery-less CMOS motes to enhance ultrasound diagnostics and monitoring.

Unmet Need: Ultrasonography method for improved imaging with low power configurations

While conventional ultrasonography is the gold standard in non-invasive medical imaging, it faces limitations in consistently generating reliable, high-resolution images, especially at low power settings. This shortcoming restricts its efficacy in continuous or real-time monitoring of internal body structures and the functioning of implanted medical devices. Addressing these limitations is crucial, as it can significantly enhance diagnostic accuracy, enable continuous health monitoring, and improve the management of various medical conditions.

The Technology: Wireless implantable motes that can locate, track, and power an ultrasound image in real-time

This technology leverages CMOS electronic motes implanted in the body to augment ultrasonography imaging. These battery-less devices, positioned within the ultrasound field-of-view, enhance image resolution and consistency, especially at low power settings. The motes operate on extremely low energy levels, ensuring physiological safety and minimal tissue impact. This technology can be expanded to multiple ultrasound-responsive implantable devices to enhance tracking and transmission of device data.

This technology has been validated in vivo .
