Unmet Need: Safer alternative to synthetic preservatives

Synthetic preservatives have long been widely used in consumer goods and personal care products. However, in recent years, concerns over the potentially detrimental health and environmental effects of some of these synthetic compounds have led to an increasing demand for natural alternatives.

The Technology: Preservative composed of natural ingredients with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity

This technology describes a preservative composition that is comprised of natural products. The preservative is made up of fruit acids, essential oils, and other botanical extracts that have been shown to exhibit broad spectrum antimicrobial efficacy. This preservative formulation is odor-masking, suitable for use in a variety of food, beverage, and personal care products, and provides a potentially safer alternative to conventional synthetic preservatives.

This technology has been demonstrated to be effective at inhibiting bacterial growth for up to 28 days in tomato sauce and apple juice products.
