This technology is a flexible water suppression algorithm for magnetic resonance spectroscopy that can be adjusted for different visualization challenges
Water suppression is commonly used in magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging (MRSI) to reduce the measured water signal in order to visualize and quantify metabolites that are present in much lower concentrations. While water suppression is a critical tool for MRSI, current methods are not suitable for all experiments. Water suppression adds significant experimental time, and the algorithms available may not be suitable for imaging of all macromolecules. There are currently no MRS water suppression methods that support customization for improved visualization under different conditions.
This method uses the Constrained Optimized Water Suppression (COWS) algorithm for flexible, customizable water suppression. The COWS algorithm can accommodate an arbitrary number of pulses, minimum durations between pulses, total module duration, and maximum flip angles, making it suitable for a variety of imaging schemes. COWS allows for a substantially reduced module duration compared to existing methods, which reduces experimental time. It can also be modified to increase the number of pulses in a standard duration, enabling superior water suppression and imaging of macromolecules.
