This technology is a digital health model to improve access and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation by moving clinic-based treatment to the home.
Cardiac rehabilitation is an essential component of improving heart health following acute cardiac episodes, such as a heart attack, as well as managing chronic cardiac conditions. Traditionally, it involves clinic-based exercises and education. However, there is a history of low participation, specifically in the US, where less than a quarter of eligible patients participate due to issues such as time, transportation, and costs.
This technology combines traditional clinic practices with telehealth, and home-based tools to create a hybrid model for cardiac rehabilitation. The hybrid model uses remote patient monitoring devices, home-based exercise equipment, and telehealth sessions to move away from exclusive clinic-based care.
Currently, a pilot study is being conducted at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Vanderbilt Cardiopulmonary Clinic until July 2023.
