Growth-accommodating transcatheter-dilatable biostable prosthesis
This technology is a transcatheter-dilatable valve tube prosthesis for children and adults with heart valve diseases.
Unmet Need: Prosthetic valve devices that can be enlarged and expanded
Treatment of congenital heart disease cases may require life-saving cardiac valve replacement surgeries, such as mitral and tricuspid valve repairs. However, current commercially available prosthetic valve devices are fixed in size and cannot be enlarged in response to natural growth and environment. This results in the need for patients, particularly children, to have multiple valve resizing surgeries. For individuals who have heart valve diseases, a flexible prosthesis would reduce the need for surgical interventions.
The Technology: Expandable valved tube prosthesis
This technology is a prosthetic valve device that can be enlarged according to the environment. It comprises a transcatheter-dilatable biostable tube prosthesis composed of a cylindrical component and a valved component with an expandable stent between the two. A minimally invasive, suture-free procedure can be utilized to successively dilate the diameter of the implant as the patient grows from childhood to adult.
Applications:
- Prosthetic for pediatric heart valve diseases
- Prosthetic for adult heart valve diseases
- Replacement prosthetics for expanding tissues
- Design for expandable catheter tubing for long-term use
Advantages:
- Expandable with a minimally invasive procedure
- Biostable
- Sutureless
