Integrated chip-scale lasers from visible to near-IR
This technology is a chip-scale platform of a tunable, narrow-linewidth laser spanning the entire visible spectrum up to near-IR.
Unmet Need: High-performance, integrated light source
Chip-scale applications require integrated, tunable, narrow-linewidth light sources that span a wide spectral range. Current light sources lack tunability, require bulky external equipment or components, or only span narrow spectral ranges, limiting chip-scale photonic applications.
The Technology: Integrated chip-scale narrow-linewidth, broad-spectrum, highly tunable laser
This technology is a chip-scale laser that combines high-confinement silicon nitride resonators with commercially available Fabry-Perot laser diodes to create a platform that is tunable with narrow linewidth and broad spectrum. The silicon nitride resonators support low-loss light propagation throughout the visible and near-IR spectrum; additionally, the Fabry-Perot laser diodes provide tunability and a narrow linewidth. In combination, the platform offers a highly precise, broad-spectrum chip-scale laser, advancing chip-scale photonics.
