This technology is a 9 item survey instrument to efficiently assess how well two clinicians cooperate when managing the same patient.
Many patients in a clinical setting require provider co-management, in which more than one healthcare professional, often across different disciplines, is caring for the same patient. Interpersonal relations within this interdisciplinary co-management team may impact the quality and efficacy of patient care. Thus, it is critical to have a tool to assess the cooperativity of healthcare providers involved in patient co-management.
This technology is a survey instrument that provides rapid assessment of cooperativity within interdisciplinary patient co-management teams. These teams may consist of healthcare providers within and across specialties and settings. Specifically, it measures the interpersonal relations of 2 healthcare professionals within this team, providing an overall score of co-management effectiveness. The PCMI-Short is an abbreviated version of the original PCMI (PCMI-Full), and is designed to quickly and efficiently determine which clinicians effectively manage the same patient.
This technology has been validated in samples of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and registered nurses. It was also successfully employed during the COVID-19 pandemic to quickly gauge the cooperativity of interdisciplinary healthcare teams and determine their redeployment to new teams.
