Safe, simplified production and storage of alkali-ion batteries

This technology is a production and finishing method for alkali-ion battery cells that maintains neutral voltage for safer packing and transport.

Unmet Need: Method for stable alkali-ion cell production with limited electrical hazards

Current alkali-ion batteries involve complex and time-sensitive manufacturing processes. Following production, a tap charge must be applied to establish the correct voltage and prevent electrode degradation, which can impair performance. These requirements add logistical challenges to battery pack transportation and assembly, necessitating multiple safety standards to ensure secure and reliable distribution.

The Technology: Safe, simplified alkali-ion battery production

This technology simplifies the production and finishing process for alkali-ion batteries by integrating an electrolyte into the alkali-ion cell, eliminating corrosion and allowing assembly at neutral voltage. The need for tap charging is removed, greatly enhancing the battery’s electrical safety during assembly and transport. Moreover, battery packs can be manufactured easily, and integration and activation can occur outside the manufacturing facility. This approach eliminates the time constraints, complexity, and production costs typically associated with traditional alkali-ion cell production and is compatible with cells utilizing aluminum current collectors.
