This technology is a protective face shield composed of a single sheet of plastic that is inexpensive and easy to manufacture.
Conventional face shields for personal protective equipment (PPE) are composed of multiple plastic, foam, and elastic pieces. Their limited manufacturing efficiency results in shortages of face shields during periods of high PPE demand, forcing healthcare workers to tend to patients without proper protection. As such, there remains a need for a face shield design that is suitable for rapid, large-scale manufacturing and distribution.
This technology is a rapidly-manufacturable face shield composed of a single piece of plastic. With no required elastic or foam components, the shield can be laid completely flat, making production, transportation, cleaning, and storage easy and efficient. Furthermore, the size and shape of the design can be modified based on the user and application. This technology has the potential to aid anyone who needs facial protection, such as healthcare workers, first-aid responders, mechanics, or custodial workers.
This technology has been validated with a prototype.
